How do you talk to yourself?
Do you bask in negative self-talk and say that's really how I am? Perhaps you grew up constantly hearing how you were stupid and foolish.
Does that still affect you horribly? Do you feel as though you can never be enough no matter what?
As a person whose love language is primarily words of affirmation, I used to wallow in negative self-talk and words that broke my confidence rather than built my trust in God.
People would let me know that the dress I was wearing was beautiful, and if I genuinely didn't believe them, it didn't matter how many compliments I got on that dress.
All that mattered was that I didn't believe them.
That is a sincerely devastating way to live—staying in a catatonic state of unbelief in my ability to do anything because doubt has now been intricately woven into my being.
That is not the will of God for you or me.
Have you not heard that you are wonderfully and fearfully made? Have you not seen miracles in the littlest things? Have you not seen the gentle lover that the Holy Spirit is?
If you haven't, that's okay.
Just say: Lord Jesus, I thank you because you love me. Help me love myself and see myself as you love and see me.
